Top Ironing Tips

Ironing clothes can be a counterproductive task if it isn't done properly. Follow my handy tips for ironing:
Picture
  • Use a light iron, they’re easier to manoeuvre – and pay for a good one (Vaporella or Norris Steam are good).
  • Get a decent ironing board and pad it properly.  Use thick upholstery felt or an old, good condition, doubled up blanket, cut to the shape of the board.  Then fold an old cotton sheet in four lengthways, cut it to six inches around the board, turn the board over and sew it using strong buttonhole thread and ladder stitch.
  • Make sure the board is the right height for you.
  • Get a sleeve extension and a plant spray.
  • Don’t press the steam button too much – you end up getting a jet of water on the clothes which can stain.
  • The best ones are mini-pressurised steam irons: the Italians make them with a separate steam box.
  • Always iron clothes slightly damp.

If you want to add even more freshness to your clothes then a great product to try is the Floral Ironing Water from Total Wardrobe Care. The Floral Ironing Water can be used to refresh linens when ironing. It leaves garments and bed linens fresh and it can also be put into steamers and irons for a fragrant steam. It can be used with the steamer to refresh any worn clothing and to kill moths and moth larvae. Ingredients: Natural lemongrass and orange blossom floral water in a handy spray bottle.

Very useful tips indeed. I recently discovered the joys of using a steam generator iron and it does a fantastic job of cutting down my ironing time. My work clothes and my husband's work clothes for the week took me 25 minutes every weekend, now it takes less than 15 minutes with my steam generator iron. It's a really good gadget for those who don't like to iron.

Yes, steam generator irons are very useful for those of us who simply hate ironing. Saves me about 10 minutes every week as well.

Love my steam generator iron to bits. If you've never tried one you're missing out on so much other things you could be doing with your time.
